Consciousness

I won’t remember my time

Spent floating in the birth canal

The time when I grew

Into the form I’ll envelop

For sixty to seventy years

Yet I’ll remember the songs

That you sing to me at nighttime

When I am older

And they will help shape who I am

When you are no longer around

But it is your choice alone

Whether you keep me inside you

I can be those things

But I am not that person yet

And won’t be until I am born.
